born 1902 MITCHELSTOWN, CO. CORK oil on canvas 63.5 by 75 cm., 25 by 29 1/2 in. The statue which stands in the town's Market Square is of John Mandeville (1849-1888), a patriot and native of the town who was imprisoned for several years in Tullamore, where he was kept naked after refusing to wear prison uniform. He died soon after his release. Provenance: The artist's studio.
