the patent was issued to John T. Foster of Jersey City, NJ on March 19, 1867, it is very beautifully constructed of finely finished wood with brass gears and other metal components, a supplied description of action is as follows "Raw peat is fed into a hopper on top of the machine and is ground, cut and mixed by a series of counter rotating blades, then forced through cylindrical die much like meat through a meat grinder. The cylinder or log of peat (when) it attains a desired length ... pushes a trigger" and is cut off and rolled to a conveyor; the model appears fully functional and retains original patent tag
