signed, "Paul Peel, Paris, 1888", original frame. Peel worked in Paris and specialized in figures and interiors. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art from 1877-1880 under Thomas Eakins. He was elected a member of the Ontario Society of Artists in 1880. Later that year he left for Europe, and spent the first part of 1881 in Pont-Aven.
