Description: Paul Klee (1879 Münchenbuchsee/Schweiz - 1940 Muralto/Locarno). Seiltänzer. 1923 Lithograph with red toneplate Kornfeld 95 IV c (of IV c). Söhn HDO 335-4. Signed, dated and inscribed '138'. One of 220 copies. 44 x 26,8 cm (17,3 x 10,5 in) One of orig. prints that are part of the portfolio 'Kunst der Gegenwart'. Printed by the Staatliche Bauhaus, Weimar. Released by the Marées-Gesellschaft R.Piper & Co., Munich 1923 (with blindstamp) Paul Klee had attained a filigree and unmistakable style by the early 1920s. A style with which he implemented real and invented things in ambiguous compositions. Free and imitating lines penetrate one another in layers arranged on top of one another, forming poetic and grotesque-humorous depictions. Our sheet, one of the main works in his graphic oeuvre and at the same time one of Klee's most beautiful lithographs in colors, is a wonderful example thereof. [EH]."
