PAIR OF HAND-PAINTED SALT PRINTS BY REUTLINGER. It seems appropriate to start this section of photographs on paper with some images from the daguerreian era. These are large 7 7/8 x 8 ¼ - inch oval portraits of husband and wife in sealed passepartouts with embossed imprint. The outside dimension is 10 ¼ x 12 ½ - inches. These have blue paper backings, sealed with the original ribbed tape, and original hanging hooks. There are green labels for Reutlinger's studio at 112 Rue Richelieu, Paris [established in 1850,] on which he announces, in English, "Daguerreotype on Paper and on Metal./ A second portrait on paper can always be delivered without being obliged to sit again to the artist." These are as much examples of painting as of photography. Some foxing on the passepartout. [3]
