Description: PAINTING OF THE SCHOONER EMMA L. GREGORY. Oil on canvas, signed lower right "JG Babbidge Feb. 1877 No. 5" (James Gardner Babbidge, Maine, 1844-1919). A fine portrait of the Emma L. Gregory with the captain, G.A. Thorndyke, identified by the artist in the lower right. A note on verso indicates that the painting "lay four months under ninety feet of water in Long Island Sound".
