Otto Mueller (1874 Liebau/Riesengebirge - 1930 Obernigk bei Breslau). Zwischen Bäumen stehendes Mädchen. 1924-27 Coloured Lithograph .Karsch 158 I A (of III). Signed. One of c. 5 copies. On Simili-Japon (with watermark 'Cerrus M-K-Papier'). 44,3 x 33,2 cm (17,4 x 13 in). Sheet: 59,4 x 46,4 cm (23,3 x 18,2 in). Karsch only recorded one copy (of c. 5)Provenienz: Private collection North Rhine-Westphalia. In this late lithograph, Mueller has summed up everything that motivated his artistic intention. The slender figure of the girl between trees stands metaphorically, so to speak, for an entire genre, with which Mueller so attractively enriched his aeuvre. Our proof documents in exemplary fashion what a hard struggle it was to make the aesthetic statement. Colouring it with crayons must certainly have represented an attempt to fix this proof as the valid version. The colours of the tree trunks used here diverge from the later version. Here they are tinted blue but appear beige grey in the final version. The background sky - light blue in the final version - is here still the white of the paper itself. [KD]In good condition. With minor mount staining. Margins minimally creased, probably due to the printing. Edges with a few minor bumps. Lower right corner with soft crease marks. Upper corners loosely mounted on backing on the reverse, softly shining through to the front.
