With the clearly visible grinding positions over the heads of the three bathing people in the back and below the sitting figure in the centre recorded in KarschProvenienz: Private collection Germany. With his 'Bathers' Otto Mueller whisks us away to a small paradise of his own making. Innocent life in and with nature is an integral part of his bucolic idea of the life worth living. Mueller, who enjoyed giving himself a gypsy aura although he almost always lived in big cities, was in his wishful thinking an exile, driven by longing, who could realise only in art what real life withheld from him. [KD]Good overall impression. Softly discoloured as well as partially with brownish discolorations. Margins partially minimally creased and with isolated small tears. The image margin with a few superficial thin spots. Upper corners firmly mounted on backing on the reverse.
