Otto Modersohn (1865 Soest - 1943 Fischerhude). Moorbrücke. Um 1905/08 Oil on cardboard. Signed lower right. With title and inscription on the reverse.28 x 19 cm (11 x 7,4 in). Expertise: The authenticity of this work has kindly been confirmed by email by Mr. Rainer Noeres, Otto Modersohn Museum, Fischerhude Provenienz: Private collection Saarland. In recent decades interest has again been focused on Otto Modersohn. The points of similarity between his work and that of his wife, Paula Modersohn-Becker, are more numerous than previously thought and this is true not only of the choice of motifs. This is exemplified by the present small painting, in which landscape and staffage figures form an aesthetic whole that is remarkable for its narrative simplicity. [KD]Good overall impression. Numerous smaller retouchings. Minor rubbing due to the framing, lower left corner minimally bumped.
