OOC - 'The Awakening' by Marguerite Thompson Zorach (ME/NY, 1887-1968), signed lr and with title, name and address of 123 West 10th Street, NYC on artist-made label verso. An important example of Zorach's influential Fauvist/Symbolist period, ca 1915, depicting a gesturing seated child in a rural landscape, enfolded by adult arms. Set into a vintage handcarved gilt and washed matched corner frame, 1969 restoration report to the estate from Getrud Berger affixed verso. SS: 18" x 28", OS: 22" x 32", cleaned and restored. Her husband William was to create a linoleum cut from this in 1917, which he called 'Father and Son'. From a private collection in Yarmouth, Maine.
