OOC - Ship Portrait of 'The Great Republic' by Percy Sanborn (ME, 1849-1929), signed lr, a port view under full sail with steamer and sailing ship in background, captioned 'Ship Great Republic; Joseph Limeburner, Master. Donald McKay, Builder, So. Boston, 1853. As Rebuilt After Fire of Dec 28, 1853', she burned to the waterline at the docks prior to her first crossing, was sold as salvage and rebuilt, she was the largest wooden ship ever built, in the original gold molded frame, SS: 21 1/2" x 35 1/2", OS: 27 3/4" x 41 3/4", two small repaired punctures, cleaned and varnished. From an Ohio estate.
