Scene shows farmer and family at water's edge with cows, sheep, and goats. Boat with people and horse in distance large castle and mountains. Luministic sunset over mountains. Signed T. Cole in right corner. Housed in a very fancy gold gesso decorated frame. On back of stretcher presented to John I. Williams by Thomas Cole 1842, "Adirondacks". Appears to have old relining. Prov: This painting descended in the John Insco Williams Family to the current owner. Mr. Williams was a portrait and panorama painter who resided in Dayton, Ohio.
