signed Pleissner (lower right) watercolor on paper Edward S. Litchfield (1911-84) was a great-grandson of Edwin Clark Litchfield, who developed a square mile of Brooklyn farm land, including Park Slope. Growing up vacationing at Litchfield Park in the Adirondacks, where his family owned a camp since 1893, clearly fueled his interest in sporting art as seen in this commissioned work by Pleissner as well as the collection of paintings which follow. However, his primary collecting focus, certainly encouraged by his uncle, the distinguished book collector E. Hubert Litchfield, were sporting books which were sold in these rooms November 29, 2001.
