Private Collection, Athens
CATALOGUE NOTE

Engonopoulos trained at the Athens School of Fine Art under the tutelage of Constantinos Parthenis (see lots 3, 19, 24, 67-71) and Dimitrios Biskinis. A member of the 'Thirties Generation' and widely considered to be the founder of Greek surrealism, Engonopoulos depicted themes that seamlessly incorporated mythology and antiquity within a contemporary idiom. His depictions of male and female figures were filled with irony and humour.
