Description: Troika in a Winterscape signed in Cyrillic 'N. Sverchkov' (lower right) oil on canvas 62.5x98.5cm. LITERATURE N. Chapochnikova and D. Gurievich, Svertchkov, (Lausanne, 2000) NOTES Born in 1818 in St. Petersburg, where he studied at the Academy of Arts. A contemporary of Horace Vernet (1789-1863) and of A. de Dreux (1810-1860) he had like them a passion for horses which he represented in their numerous uses.
