NOTE
The production was staged by Nikolai Balieff's Letuchaya mysh' theatre company in Paris in the autumn of 1926.
General Platov, who famously lost one of his ears in battle, led a Cossack regiment in the Napoleonic campaigns and participated in the Russian occupation of Paris in 1814. The soldiers are depicted wearing white bands on their left arm as ordered by Alexander I to help allied troops distingush each other from the enemy.
