MOUNTED HALF MODEL OF THE AMERICAN FOUR-FUNNEL WARSHIP WAMPANOAG 19th Century
Hull painted black and brown, with unusual ropework turning to deck. The Wampanoag was a 4,215 ton steam frigate, laid down at the New York Navy Yard in 1863 as part of a Civil War program to build large, fast steam cruisers. She was launched in 1864, and commissioned in September, 1867. She attained speeds over 17 knots before she was decommissioned in May, 1868. She then became the Florida, and ultimately was refitted and used at the New London, Connecticut Naval Yard before she was sold in 1885. Height of board, 10". Length of board 65". Depth overall 4".
