NOTE
Shining through the moonlit sky, the brilliant tones of Ardon's textural landscape stand out harmoniously against the black night background. In this work, the development which Ruth Apter-Gabriel discusses in Mordechai Ardon's landscapes is clearly evident. Apter-Gabriel notes that from the mid 1960s a slow process of breaking through the boundaries of the real to the beyond is apparent. The division between heaven and earth is still clear during this period even though they seem to coexist in a new, different kind of space, while in the 1970s, "... the tendency to eliminate the boundaries and unify the terrestrial and the celestial - in an attempt to reach an infinite and universal world - becomes increasingly pronounced... In the following years, Ardon continued to use luminous colors and intricate surface textures, while his landscape views seem to become more infinite, expanding into eternity." (Ruth Apter Gabriel, Mordechai Ardon Landscapes of Infinity, The Israel Museum, Jerusalem, 2003).
