Condition/Details: Bound in pictorial brown cloth with bright gilt embossing, this antique volume is a scarce first edition of this work by Mark Twain, the intermediate issue between the first and second states identified by McBride with "The St. Louis Hotel" on page 443 but lacking the illustration on page 441. "Life on the Mississippi" is a memoir by Mark Twain detailing his days as a steamboat pilot on the Mississippi River before and after the American Civil War. The work is profusely illustrated. The volume shows light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with lightly age-toned pages. The book measures approximately6 1/2 " x 9" and contains 624 pages.
