Cornelis van Bijnkershoek (1673-1743) was a leading Dutch legal theorist of the early eighteenth century, whose most important work was in the areas of international law and its young offshoot, maritime law. Included in the book offered here is Bijnkershoek's treatise on maritime law, Dominio maris dissertatio ('On the dominion of the seas'), first published in 1702, and one of the earliest and most influential works on the Law of the Sea.
