Smith & Cornell Smith, Stockport Co. ...May 1859" the New York inventors (from the patent papers) of a : "New and Improved Machine for Finishing or Polishing Leather. The object ... is to obtain a machine whereby the length of the stroke or vibration of the tool ... may be regulated (and) the tool also kept parallel with the face of the bed over which leather (is) fed by an automatic mechanism evenly and with a regular movement to the tool.", altogether a fine early model with original patent tag dated January 1860
