Louis Betts (NY/IL, 1873-1961), "My Wife," oil on canvas (lined), signed lower right "Louis Betts," a dramatic three quarter length portrait of the artist's wife wearing a white gown standing before a wind-swept landscape, housed a very fine hand carved gilt and gesso frame (likely original), retaining two exhibition labels on the verso. Exhibitions: Winter Exhibition, National Academy of Design, 1918, awarded the Thomas R. Proctor Prize. (A copy of the New York Times article, published on December 7, 1918, is included with the lot.) Art in Embassies Program, United States Department of State, Washington, D. C., registry number 1990.389. SS 59.25" x 39.25"; DOA 70.5" x 50.5"
