The present lot is a design for the cover for one of the publications of Centrifuga, a well- known Russian literary society and publishing house that operated from 1916 to 1923. It was founded by the poets Ivan Aksenov and Sergei Bobrov, with whom Popova worked on many designs for their publications. Alexandra Exter also worked on Centrifuga and designed its logo, and it is this which Popova incorporates into the present composition. The offered lot can be dated to 1921-1922, and it is worth noting that there are three similar works in the Costakis collection, including Space-Force Construction, 1921 (Tretyakov Gallery).
