Originaire de Bruxelles, Constantin Meunier fut non seulement peintre et dessinateur mais aussi sculpteur. De veine réaliste, ses oeuvres révèlent une sensibilité particulière pour les gens du peuple et le travail de l'ouvrier. A partir de 1884 Meunier se consacre pleinement à la sculpture. Ses portraits, ou bustes en bronze représentent les classes prolétaires, tout en exprimant un caractère noble et intemporel.

Born in Brussels, Constantin Meunier was a painter, illustrator and realist sculptor who was particularly drawn to the daily life of the working class. From 1884 onward, Meunier dedicated himself to representations of the proletariat, endowing them with a noble and timeless aura.
