Extremely Rare Large-Sized Redware Parrot Bank, Pennsylvania origin, 19th century, molded bank in the form of a large crested parrot with highly-detailed feathers, perched on a tree stump accented with leaves. Parrot and areas of stump decorated with colorful yellow and green slip, the bank's entire surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Coin slot in parrot's back. An outstanding example of American redware. Banks of this size, form, and color, are considered highly unusual. Provenance: Christie's Sale of the Seamen's Bank Collection, March 13, 1991. Excellent condition with minor glaze wear, a few minor lines in base, and an in-the-firing vertical separation line on right side of parrot's body. H 10".
