NOTE
"Walking around the city -- by 1990 he had moved to Milan -- was part of his 'fieldwork'. He would focus on small acts of survival in this metropolitan context, finding them as intense as many artworks. A homeless man who washed his clothes and dried them on a tree in the middle of the winter, for example, provided an image strong enough to generate a hypothetical art piece, later to evolve into actual works such as Andreas e Mattia (1996)... During this period Cattelan was reflecting not only upon the role of the artist but on other social roles: on another he followed a vagrant through the streets of the city in order to understand all of his movements and needs within the urban landscape -- identifying with his emancipated condition." (Francesco Bonami, Maurizio Cattelan, London, 2000)
