Description: Joseph C. Leyendecker (1874-1951) new year's baby signed with the artist's monogrammed initials J.C.L., l.r. and dated 1928, l.c. oil on canvas 28 by 21in. (71.1 by 53.3cm.) J.C. Leyendecker created the New Year's baby for the 1906 cover of The Saturday Evening Post. The baby reappeared on The Post's cover annually for nearly forty years.
