PROVENANCE
Commissioned by Mr Willis in 1862 for £300
NOTE
In 1859 Linnell painted a work entitled The Keg measuring 39 by 27 in. In 1862 Mr Willis commissioned Linnell to paint a smaller version which corresponds to the present picture. Linnell's journal entry for 20th October 1862 records "Mr Willis came for the picture of The Keg 24 x 18 panel £300".
