This lot will be accompanied by photocopied correspondence between the consignor's mother and Helen Sloan, the artist's wife, from October 1962. According to Helen Sloan, "the work was painted in New Mexico in 1923 and depicts part of a typical Catholic cemetery of the Spanish-Indian Pueblo communities."
