The ICA presented John Currin's first major solo exhibition in the
UK in 1995. This show featured a whole host of female bodies on
canvas, from blue-eyed big-breasted blondes, to enigmatic portraits
of middle-aged women and a haunting series of sick or indolent
women in bed. Currin was also included in the group exhibition
Surprise Surprise, 2006, and his work featured in the ICA's 50th
anniversary auction in 1997.
The Pink Tree, 2007, depicts two female nudes with exaggerated
proportions, an image which has been re-configured by Currin in
various works, including an oil painting from 1999 of the same title,
and which is in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
