A wooded river landscape with a figure on a path oil on canvas 30 x 40 in. (76.2 x 101.6 cm.) NOTES The artist was the third son of Robert Ladbrooke (1770-1879), who had founded the Norwich Society of Artists with his brother-in-law John Crome (1768-1821). Berney Ladbrooke is thought to have been taught by Crome, although Robert Ladbrooke and Crome quarrelled in 1811 and Ladbrooke set up a rival society. Berney Ladbrooke, like his father, specialised in landscape views, influenced by the Dutch landscape artists of the 17th century.
