CATALOGUE NOTE
Painted circa 1865-1868.
This work came to its original owner, Jacques Offenbach, as a gift from Corot. Offenbach (1819-1880) was a composer who is credited with the creation of a type of French comic opera, called the opérette. A prolific writer who had numerous successes to his credit, Rossini refered to him as "our little Mozart of the Champs-Elysées."
We would like to thank Martin Dieterle for kindly confirming the authenticity of this lot.
