JAMES HAMILTON (American, 1819-1878) BOSTON HARBOR. Outstanding panoramic oil on canvas scene looking at the city of Boston from outside of its harbor. In the background is a low hill with church spires and large dome top building. Foreground has several tall ships in anchor and several sailboats dotting the harbor. A barrel buoy is seen in foreground. Signed lower left "A. Hamilton". Housed in a fine gilt replacement frame. PROVENANCE: Rankin Estate, Annapolis, Maryland. Christie's New York Sale 9/27/90 lot 52. Purchased from Marine Arts Gallery, Salem, Massachusetts, 1991. SIZE: 14" x 30-1/2". CONDITION: Very good with wax relining. Inpainted area above left sailboat. 9-29644 HP
