PORTRAIT OF A MAN, HEAD AND SHOULDERS IN A WHITE RUFF Oil on panel 58 by 42 cm.; 23 by 16 1/2 in. This painting was formerly attributed to Jan Lievens. Professor Werner Sumowski was the first to identify the present work as an early work by Backer in a letter dated 1 November 1980, a copy of which accompanies this lot. PROVENANCE Anonymous sale, London, Christie's, 27 October 1989, lot 210.
