Ives cast iron Cutter Sleigh drawn by an Articulated Horse, circa 1893, a finely crafted, elegant sleigh in dark japanned finish accented in gold and red in stylized design, it rests on delicately cast supports and runners with swirling top terminating in eagles' heads which frame the sleigh's dash, it houses an original figure dressed in cloth hat, brown coat and striped pants concealed by a tapestry style lap robe which matches the hat, drawn by a bronze finish horse with articulated legs and original leather straps, when pulled forward the horse canters in a realistic manner as the sleigh glides forward on its two small wheels, (near mint, remarkable condition, with only a small rub on horse, bright, clean and shiny, even the figure's painted face retains its crisp finish). (3) length 19 1/2 in. (49.5cm.) This is perhaps the most celebrated toy in the Hegarty collection. It is considered by many to be the finest example known and has made the Hegarty name synonymous with rare toys in superb condition.
