Description: IMPORTANT ANTIQUE AMERICAN CHIPPENDALE TILT-TOP TEA TABLE 18th Century
Attributed to John Goddard. In mahogany with chestnut mount plate on pedestal. One-piece mahogany dish top shows 5/8" of shrinkage. Turned pedestal with cabriole legs ending in rat's paw five-toed feet. Height 28". Diameter 29 3/4".
An almost identical table is illustrated in Jobe, Brock and Kaye, Myrna, New England Furniture: The Colonial Era. Houghton Mifflin Co., Boston, 1984. p. 300, plate 74.
Condition: Refinished. Top cracked. Strengthened with additional screws set in the battens. Top has had two breaks. Repaired.
