Hubley cast iron The Flower Shoppe Indian Flower Van, circa 1932, finished in red with black roof featuring oval windows, aluminum handlebar/headlights, hinged rear door, four cylinder motor with original Indian decals on each side of the gas tank, featuring paper label on side marked The Flower Shoppe Inc., raised on three rubber tires with spoked wheels, it comes with separate original driver finished in brown, remarkably it retains its original pull string and ball, (near mint with one dull scraped spot below the flower sign, some water staining to the sign, overall incredible condition). (2) length 10 3/4 in. (27.3cm.) A similar toy is listed in an early 1930s Hubley catalogue as No. 37 which was produced for only a few years beginning in 1931. Usually this cycle comes in all blue, furthermore, the catalogue illustration and the few other known examples are marked Say it with Flowers in raised gold letters on each side of the van. This toy has a small slightly recessed rectangular area on one side that is fitted with a paper sign marked The Flower Shoppe. There seems to be raised lettering under the sign, while the other side is blank, since this toy is in near mint factory paint it appears to be a special order or a limited production version of the No. 37 4 cylinder Indian Flower Van. A toy described in Automotive Cast Iron Toys by Outwater and Weart, as arguably considered the most desirable of all cast iron automotive toys from the standpoints of design subject and scarcity, only a handful are known to exist. The differences listed above and its near mint condition places it in an even more rarefied category.
