Notes:
This photograph comes originally from the album of Bosse photographs, 'Views on the Mississippi River Between Minneapolis, Minn. And St. Louis, Mo. From Negatives Taken and Prepared under the Direction of Major A. MacKenzie, Corps of Engineers, U. S. A., by H. Bosse, Draftsman, 1883-1981.' This album, comprising 169 cyanotypes, was sold in these rooms on 16 October 1990. Bosse was commissioned by the Army Corps of Engineers to document both the pervasive flooding along the expanse of the Mississippi as well as the work the Corps had completed to mitigate the flooding. The resulting images comprise a fascinating portrait of the river and the life along its banks.
