Notes: 'This drawing dates from the most important period of Gaudier's work and it is a particularly powerful example of his handling of a cubist approach to form, basically figurative but with the type of simplification and powerful abstraction which is fellow Vorticists found so exciting. Although Gaudier drew extensively few of his Vorticist-style drawings have survived' (see exhibition catalogue, 20th Century British Art 'From Sickert to Hockney', London, William Weston Gallery, 1990, p. 22).
