HELD JR, John (1889-1958). "Let's Give Books For Christmas." Pen-and-ink drawing apparently for a poster, 1920s. 11 1/2 x 9 3/4 inches; 285 x 245mm. Signed in ink. Condition : Some soiling little affecting image. John Held Jr was one of the most influential American cartoonists of his generation. In covers of "flaming youth" for the old Life and other humor magazines, Held's flappers and shieks defined the spirit of the Roaring Twenties as much as F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald did. His Joe College and Betty Coed epitomized the Jazz Age.
