Private collection South Germany Ausstellung: Heinrich Campendonk. Das Kokoschka-Erlebnis und die Folgen, August Macke Haus Bonn, 25 February - 22 April 2001, cat. no. 14 (with illu. in colors p. 105) The watercolor, made around 1912, shows how versatile Campendonk is in taking on new influences. The closeness to Oskar Kokoschka's drawings cannot be omitted, and yet, a very own expression seems to mature in Campendonk, as the figures' dynamic displays certain influences of Art Nouveau with their stretched physicalness. The vivid composition, that Campendonk creates with a certain pathos, can be regarded as a draft for a greater work. Even in its fragmentary condition it hints at what the artist was going to realize in future times. [KD]."
