Notes: Hosmer first modeled The Sleeping Faun as a response to her teacher's, John Gibson's, Sleeping Shepard Boy, first sculpted in 1824. The Sleeping Faun was first exhibited in 1865 in Dublin, Ireland. There are five known versions of the sculpture, one of which is in the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
