Title: The Maxims of Methuselah
Author: Gelett Burgess
Publisher: Frederick A. Stokes Company Publishers
Printing Year: 1907 Author-Signed First Edition in Scarce Dustjacket
Condition/Details: Bound in cloth spine with bright pictorial paper front cover, this antique volume is a scarce autographed first edition of this work by Frank Gelett Burgess. Burgess (January 30, 1866 - September 18, 1951) was an artist, art critic, poet, author, and humorist, who achieved fame with his nonsense verse. This collection of humorous maxims is illustrated with four color plates, decorations and cover design by Louis D. Fancher. Author's inscription appears on half title page over a (presumably the author's) hand-drawn caricature and reads "With the compliments of / Gelett Burgess / 1907." The volume shows very light external age/wear, and is solidly bound with clean pages. Intact, mylar-covered dustjacket shows one-inch tear to the bottom of spine and small tears to edges. The book measures approximately 5 1/4" x 7 1/4" and contains 108 pages. Shipping cost (within the U.S.) for this lot will be: $4.50
