GABO, Naum (1890-1977). Portrait of William Lieberman. India ink on paper (165 x 150 mm). Signed lower right. Framed and mounted on cardboard. Provenance: estate of William Lieberman (sale Tepper Galleries, NY 7 Dec 2006, lot 9). Gabo contributed to the Agit-prop open air exhibitions and taught at 'VKhUTEMAS' the Higher Art and Technical Workshop, with Tatlin, Kandinsky and Rodchenko. During this period his reliefs and construction became more geometric and Gabo began to experiment with kinetic sculpture though the majority of the work was lost or destroyed. William Lieberman (1923-2005) held top curatorial posts at both the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
