amazon, circa 1897-98 black patinated bronze modelled as a naked female figure with a crested helmet astride a horse, her arm drawn back to throw a spear, on a high stepped rectangular section plinth base marked 'Franz von Stuck' and 'Guss G. Leyer Munchen' 67cm., 26Gin. Von Stuck started to develop the theme of the Amazon around 1897 whilst preparing the first designs for his villa. A life size version of this model was sited outside the completed Villa Stuck, Munich.
