Title:
PANEL FROM THE EXTERIOR FASCIA OF THE PRICE TOWER, BARTLESVILLE, OKLAHOMA
Description:
Soaring above the Oklahoma prairie, an enduring "tree that escaped the crowded forest," Frank Lloyd Wright's Price Tower in Bartlesville is one of his late masterpieces. A pioneering experiment in the multi-use skyscraper, the building was completed in February, 1956 for the H.C. Price Co., a pipeline construction firm who used it as its headquarters, along with other professional occupants and private residents. Today it is reborn as Price Tower Arts Center, offering a unique experience to visitors that fulfills Wright's original mandate. It is a living landmark, complete with exhibition galleries, restored period rooms, luxury hotel accommodations and a stunning cantilevered restaurant. Together with buildings and residences by Bruce Goff, William Wesley Peters and Wright, it has transformed Bartlesville into an architectural mecca. In the 21st century, the Arts Center will continue its expansion with a dedicated museum facility by the Pritzker Prize winning architect Zaha Hadid. For the first time, Price Tower Arts Center has decided to share with collectors a select group of original furnishings and architectural designs by Frank Lloyd Wright. Several of these site-specific works have not been previously seen on the market.
