Philadelphia modernist painter. Criss studied with Jan Matulka. He exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum, Art Institute of Chicago, and the Worlds Fair New York, 1939. During the 1930s, he painted in a precisionist style, concentrating on architectural subjects.
