Notes: Email from John T. Spike, Florence, Italy, dated April 14, 2010: I have studied the photograph of the Flemish flower piece that shows an impressive swag of flowers in front of a table that has a vase and bouquet on it. I am pleased to confirm that it is an original 17th century Flemish painting of good quality. The combination of a humble wooden tabletop with a prestigious garland (the precise but less-used term is 'swag'; a garland is closed) is unusual and suggests that the painting was made for a specific setting, perhaps in the countryside. The style is very close to he Verbrugghen dynasty of flower specialists, and indeed I expect it is by one of them. The painting appears to have been executed by a single artist, not a collaboration.
