Manufactured in 1908, the accompanying Winchester Cody Historical factory letter verifies the serial number, rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, that it was received in the warehouse on July 24, 1908 and shipped on January 20, 1910, order number 244185. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address/1884 and '85 patent dates in front of the rear sight and "45-70" at the breech. The Winchester oval proof is marked on the breech end of the barrel and receiver. The upper tang is marked with the three line maker, model trade mark information and the lower tang is marked with the serial number behind the lever and the 1884 & '85 patent date marking directly behind the trigger. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a metal forend cap and crescent buttplate.
