Fine Miniature Portrait On Ivory by James Peale (American 1749-1831), 19th Century artist renowned for the detail and realistic effect of his portraits and miniature paintings. This is a miniature portrait of James Hubbard Pool (1774- 1861) who served in the Coast Guard of the NJ Militia during War of 1812. The portrait is signed JP 1794. Provenance states that about 1821, Mr. Pool leased the Cortelyou House at Fort Hamilton. The Cortelyou Homestead is featured in the Memoirs of the Long Island Historical Society, Vol. 1.The portrait is in excellent condition and has its original leather case. It measures 2.75" tall, 1.75" w, Private Lockport, NY Estate
